My Not So Healthy Habits

Let’s face it-none of us are perfect. We can be super healthy and revolve our life around health & wellness but we are all still human and still have unhealthy habits and things we need to improve on. As a nutritional science student and full time health & wellness blogger, I am constantly talking about health, but I want you all to know that I am no where near perfect and that I also struggle with so many unhealthy habits that I’d like to improve on.

Here are my top 5 unhealthy habits:

  1. I compare myself to others way too much- This is something I constantly struggle with. Some days I feel like I am way past this and will never compare myself to others ever, but it always seems to come back to me. It’s so incredibly hard these days with social media NOT to compare ourselves to others, but it is so incredibly vital to our health. We are all on our own journeys and we are all so different that it’s a waste of time and energy trying to compare ourselves to others. There will always be someone further down their career path than you, someone smarter than you, someone who gets to travel more than you, someone with more money than you, or someone thinner than you, but no one will ever be YOU! Even though I know this oh so well, I still find it hard not to compare myself to others.
  2. I spend way more time on Social Media than I’d like to- This is probably the hardest habit to get rid of, since both of my jobs require me to constantly deal with social media.I find that even when I’m not working, it’s hard for me to take a break from social media and just be in the present moment; this is definitely something I’d like to improve.
  3. I’m a workaholic-
I’m not kidding when I say that from the moment I wake up until the moment I go to bed I am constantly thinking about work or actually working. I love what I do which is awesome, and most of the time it doesn’t seem like work to me at all! However, lately I find that it’s hard for me to relax and just be in the present moment or take some me time. This weekend I made sure to switch off from working for a bit and took the time to read and watch some T.V. and also spend some time with my family, which really really helped me a ton. This is definitely something I will keep doing for the weeks and months to come.
  4. I eat out more than I’d like to-
This one’s a tricky one, since I probably eat out less than most people, but would still like to improve. I pack my lunches to school and eat breakfast and dinner at home everyday, but on Thursday’s and Saturday’s I always go out to dinner with my family or my boyfriend. We always eat at relatively healthy places, but I always end up with some sweet potato fries or bread or dessert or all three! Also, even if you order something healthy at a restaurant, it will always be healthier if you make it yourself at home. I also like to go out for some drinks with my friends and boyfriend once or twice a week, and all of this does add up! I am all for treating yourself and always look forward to these moments, but I would like to improve and maybe cut down to eating out only once a week.
  5. I’m a perfectionist- I have always been a perfectionist and have always been way too hard on myself, which is what led me to developing an ED in the past. I’m not only a perfectionist when it comes to food, but I’m just a perfectionist in every area of my life. I have gotten way better in this area, and have learned to let go and not try to control everything, but I definitely still have some of my perfectionist ways. I know that life is beautifully imperfect, and that I should love my imperfections, but sometimes this is a hard one to remember. If I had to pick one thing I’d like to improve on, it would be to not be so hard on myself and love all of my imperfections!
