Sugar Free Chocolate Protein Balls

chocoprotein

I love bliss balls, but most of them contain dates or other sweeteners such as maple syrup or agave. I’m not against using any of these ingredients, but if I can, I try to stay away from sweets as much as possible. I also always have an afternoon snack between lunch and dinner to keep my metabolism going and prevent my energy from dropping, and I love having something that’s easy to take on the go, filled with protein and healthy fats and sweet but low in sugar! For this reason, I decided to create my own sweet, sugar free, protein ball and I know it will be your new favorite afternoon snack!

Recipe (makes 8 little balls)

  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1/4 cup hazelnuts
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tbsp chocolate protein powder
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • dash of cinnamon
  • 1-2 stevia packets
  • about 1/4 cup water
  • handful shredded coconut (optional)

First, finely chop up the nuts in a food processor. Then mix in a bowl with the cacao powder, protein powder, coconut oil, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Then put back in the food processor and blend with the stevia and water until smooth. Remove from food processor, roll into little balls, and roll in shredded coconut(optional). Put this in the fridge for about 2 hours, remove and enjoy!

Tip: keep them in the fridge and only remove when you want to eat them (or a few hours before) because they will start to get mushy!
